BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team secured a 9-7 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday at John Henry Moss Stadium. The Eagles' offense erupted for five runs in the first inning, setting the tone for the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Winthrop surged ahead in the first inning with a five-run outburst. Jaylen Hernandez scored on a single by Benhardt, who was having an impressive day with a season-high four hits. Grossington doubled down the left field line to drive in two runs. Crowley and Zach Greenberg each added RBIs to extend the lead, with Greenberg recording a season-high total of two walks. Gardner-Webb responded with a run, but the Eagles held a 5-1 advantage after one inning.
- In the third inning, Winthrop's offense struck again. Crowley homered to right field, bringing in Grossington and extending the lead to 7-1.
- The sixth inning saw the Eagles add another run. Benhardt's sacrifice fly allowed Josh Skowronski, who extended his hitting streak to four games, to score, making it 8-1. Gardner-Webb answered with two runs, reducing the gap to 8-3.
