Eagles Falls Short Against Gardner-Webb Friday Night

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Gardner-Webb University on Friday night at John Henry Moss Stadium.  

This loss snapped Winthrop's five-game winning streak against GWU. Despite managing five hits and three walks, the Eagles were unable to plate a run.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • In the third inning, GWU's Agosto homered to left field, giving the home team a 1-0 lead. 
  • The sixth inning saw Ripepi extend the Dawgs' lead with a solo homer to right center, making it 2-0. 
  • Carter added another run for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the seventh with a home run to right field, finalizing the scoring at 3-0.

  • Brayden Gilley has gone 6+ innings for the eighth time this season. 
  • The Eagles' pitching staff achieved at least 8 strikeouts swinging for the second consecutive game. 
  • The game marked only the third time head coach Mike McGuire has lost to Jim Chester.
