Farmville, Va. – Winthrop softball earned its fourth straight Big South Conference series after capturing an 8-6 victory at Longwood, Saturday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Eagles began the game drawing back-to-back walks by Rebecca Amos and Peyton Bryden but were left stranded
- Eagles struck first in the top of the third as Amos singled with one out, advanced to second on a wild pitch
- Darrah Nickens followed with a walk and then both moved over a base on another wild pitch
- Amos then raced home on a wild pitch that bounced into foul territory for a 1-0 lead
- Tia Beckham hit a chopper deep at the hole a short that was misplayed and Nickens was able to score as Beckham reached first
- Grayson Buckner followed with a single to right to put runners at the corners and then a walk from Annelisa Winebarger loaded the bases
- Carli Pearson stepped up and drew a walk to score Beckham from third and increase the lead to 3-0
- In the bottom of the third the Lancers got a runner to third as Westmiller singled up the middle with one out, stole second and then moved to third on a deep fly to right
- Faulkner stepped up and gave the ball a ride to deep right center but Amos chased it down for the third out
- Longwood's offense got going in the bottom of the fifth
- It began with one out as Abromavage singled off the outstretch glove of Bryden at third and was sacrificed to second
- Westmiller singled to center to score Abromavage to get the Lancers on the board
- Bridges walked and then stole second to put two runners in scoring position
- Bennett and Miller had back-to-back RBI singles to cut the Eagles lead to 6-3
- Maggie Hiatt drew a bases loaded walk to make it a 6-4 game before Lonna Addison came into the circle to close the door
- In the top of the sixth inning, Nickens drew a leadoff walk and then Beckham smashed a two run home run to left to lead 8-4
- Longwood cut the Winthrop lead to two runs with one out in the bottom of the seventh
- Bennett was on first courtesy of a fielder's choice and after what looked like a possible third strike to Miller, she made the most of the next pitch hitting it over the fence in left to trail 8-6
Game 2
- Game two was canceled and will not be made up
EXTRA BASES
- Beckham's home run in the sixth of game one was her 10th of the season, tying a career-best for a single-season
- Beckham becomes the second Eagle in program history to have two seasons with 10 or more home runs (other is Ansley Gilreath)
- Since Longwood starting competing in the Big South in the 2013 season, this is the first time the Eagles have captured a conference series in Farmville
- Amos had her 18th mutli-hit game of the season, the most since Ansley Gilreath had 17 in 2021
- Bryden has a hitting streak of five games and while she and Beckham have a five-game streak of reaching base

Winthrop finishes up its five-game road trip on Wednesday, Apr. 22 as it travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford College at 6 p.m.
