Charlotte, N.C. – Winthrop softball suffered a 6-0 setback at Charlotte, Tuesday evening in a non-conference midweek contest.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Peyton Bryden singled with one out in the first and moved to second on a ground out by Darrah Nickens
- Tia Beckham put the ball in play but lined to second for the third out
- London Dirks led off with a single to shallow right as Rebecca Amos gave a sliding effort to make the catch but couldn't hold on
- Jenna Lord followed with a double down the left field line to put runners at second and third
- After Audrey Wilson walked to load the bases, Sydney Lewis plated the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center
- The next batter was Ritchie and she hit a home run that was just fair down the left field line for a 4-0 lead for the 49ers
- Charlotte increased its lead to 5-0 as Lord led off the third inning with a home run to right center
- Teagan Ritchie made it 6-0 as she led off the sixth inning with a homer to left field
- Nickens tried to get something going in the top of the seventh as she led off the inning with a single to left field
- Beckham followed by drawing a walk to put two runners on with no outs
- Grayson Buckner laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners in to scoring position but they were stranded in the end
EXTRA BASES
- Peyton Bryden had her 14th multi-hit game of the season
- With her two hits, Bryden is now just one away from 100 in her career
ON DECK
Winthrop remains on the road as it gets back to conference action as it heads to Farmville, Va. for a three-game series at Longwood Apr. 18-19. The series begins on Saturday, Apr. 18 with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and concludes on Sunday, Apr. 19 with a single-game at 1 p.m.
