CLINTON, S.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team suffered its first Big South loss of the season as Presbyterian used a pair of two-run innings to pull away for a 5-2 victory Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Presbyterian struck first in the opening frame as James Green doubled to right center and scored on an Emory Guilford sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead
- Winthrop went down quietly through the first three innings before Hernandez launched a two-run homer to right in the fourth to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead
- The Blue Hose answered right back with two in the bottom of the fourth as Matthew Rollison tripled, Guilford ripped an RBI double and Amman Dewberry added an RBI single to retake the lead at 3-2
- Presbyterian tacked on two more in the fifth as Rollison singled home Green and Guilford lifted another sacrifice fly to push it to 5-2
- Winthrop managed just two baserunners over the final five innings as Presbyterian starter Christ Charalambous went 6.2 strong and Mikey Marroquin retired all seven batters he faced to earn the save
- Cox doubled to lead off the sixth but was stranded at third, and Natividad walked in the ninth but Skowronski flied out to end it
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Earnhardt took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings
- Harrison Wilson was sharp in relief with 3.2 scoreless innings, striking out three to keep Winthrop within reach
- Guilford was the difference for Presbyterian, going 2-for-2 with two doubles, three RBI and two sacrifice flies
- Hernandez's homer was his 11th of the season, keeping him atop the team leaderboard
- Winthrop's seven-game Big South winning streak was snapped as the Eagles fall to 7-1 in conference play
