Brayden Gilley struck out eight over 6.1 innings as the Eagles opened their first Big South road series with a 4-2 victory over Presbyterian on Friday evening at Elton Pollock Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Natividad was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and came around to score on a fielding error after Skowronski singled and Wouters reached on a fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead
- Presbyterian tied it in the second on a Nick Smith solo homer to left
- Natividad singled to start the third and scored on a Grossington RBI single through the right side to put Winthrop back on top 2-1
- Gilley settled in from there, retiring 13 of the next 14 batters he faced and carrying a 2-1 lead into the seventh
- Crowley doubled to right to lead off the seventh and Natividad singled him home to make it 3-1
- Wouters followed with a solo homer to left center to push the lead to 4-1
- Presbyterian got one back in the seventh when Cam Mallo doubled and scored on a wild pitch to cut it to 4-2
- Ben Rehkow entered in relief and induced a double play to end the seventh, then retired all five batters he faced over 2.2 scoreless innings to lock it down and earn his second save
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gilley earned his fifth win with eight strikeouts over 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits
- Rehkow was sharp in relief with 2.2 scoreless innings and three strikeouts to close it out
- Wouters' solo shot in the seventh was his fourth homer of the season, continuing a stretch where the junior has been one of Winthrop's most productive hitters
- Winthrop improved to 7-0 in Big South play
