AUBURN, Ala. -- No. 7 Auburn held the Winthrop University baseball team to one run on 11 combined hits across a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Plainsman Park, as they took the series against the Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Auburn jumped on Winthrop starter Luke Earnhardt in the first as Bristol Carter singled, moved to second on a pickoff error and scored on a Chase Fralick RBI groundout after Chris Rembert doubled to right centerÂ
- Eric Guevara followed with an RBI single to left center to make it 2-0 before Todd Clay ripped an RBI double down the left field line to extend the lead to 3-0Â
- Wouters doubled to left center to lead off the second and advanced to third on a McGuire single to left, but Wouters was thrown out at the plate trying to score on the play to end the threatÂ
- Sanders dominated the Winthrop lineup from there, striking out the side in the fourth and retiring 14 of the final 15 batters he faced before handing it off to reliever Drew WhalenÂ
- Garrett Byrd kept the Eagles in the game with two scoreless innings of relief in the fourth and fifth, but Auburn added two more in the sixth off Harrison Wilson as Ethin Bingaman singled, Carter reached on an error and Rembert and Fralick delivered back-to-back RBI singles to make it 5-0Â
- Rembert tacked on another RBI single in the eighth to cap the scoring at 6-0Â
- Winthrop mustered just three hits on the day and went down in order in four of the nine inningsÂ

- Sanders needed just 82 pitches to get through seven innings, striking out 10 and walking just oneÂ
- Earnhardt took the loss, surrendering three runs on four hits and four walks in three inningsÂ
- Winthrop committed two errors that led to additional Auburn baserunners in the first and sixth inningsÂ
- McGuire provided two of Winthrop's three hits in the losing effortÂ
- The Eagles were shut out in back-to-back games against the Tigers heading into game two of the doubleheaderÂ

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Both teams were held scoreless through two innings before Auburn broke through in the third as Cade Belyeu was hit by a pitch and Chase Fralick and Eric Guevara drew two-out walks to load the basesÂ
- Mason McCraine delivered a two-run single to center to give the Tigers a 2-0 leadÂ
- Crowley doubled down the right field line to lead off the third, advanced to third on a Chet Bowling sacrifice bunt and scored on a Noah Cox single through the left side to cut it to 2-1Â
- The game was delayed over two hours due to weather during the fourth inning, resuming at 9:55 p.m.Â
- Crowley doubled again in the fifth to put a runner in scoring position with one out, but the Eagles could not bring him homeÂ
- Auburn added a run in the fifth as Bub Terrell and Fralick singled before McCraine drove in Terrell with an RBI groundout to push the lead to 3-1Â
- Winthrop loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh on singles by Wilson, Crowley and pinch-hitter Cornelius Wouters, but Cox flied out to center to end the threatÂ
- Auburn answered with three in the bottom of the seventh off Ben Rehkow as McCraine crushed a two-run double to right center and Lucas Steele followed with an RBI single to blow it open at 6-1
- Taylor Belza led off the eighth with a solo homer to right center before a Guevara sacrifice fly capped the scoring at 8-1Â
- Winthrop put a runner on in the ninth via a Noah Berge pinch-hit single, but Ryan Hetzler struck out the final two batters to end itÂ
INSIDE THE BOX SCOREÂ
- Randy Guzman took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over three inningsÂ
- McCraine drove in five of Auburn's eight runs, going 2-for-5 with a two-run single and a two-run doubleÂ
- Crowley was the lone bright spot offensively, going 3-for-3 with two doubles to account for Winthrop's only runÂ
- Auburn used four pitchers to hold the Eagles to one run, with Christian Chatterton earning the win with 2.2 scoreless innings of reliefÂ
- Winthrop was swept by a opponent for the first time this season and heads home with a 10-5 recordÂ
