Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop softball defeated UNC Greensboro 4-2 on Tuesday evening, powered by strong pitching performances from
Lonna Addison and
Emmy Cardenas.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Both teams were quiet offensively over the first or second innings
- Tabitha Perry walked and Emma Roberson reached on a fielding error in the bottom of the third
- A single from Rebecca Amos loaded the bases
- A walk by Darrah Nickens earned Winthrop the first run of the game as Perry came home
- Tia Beckham then flied out to center field to score Emma Roberson on a sac fly, making it a 2-0 game
- Even with two errors by the Spartans in the bottom of the fourth, Winthrop was unable to add to the lead
- Lonna Addison earned the win in the circle, allowing no runs and three hits, striking out three in four innings pitched
- UNCG got on the board in the top of the fifth
- Salem Ward hit a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch
- Ward then scored after Jazmin Mejia grounded out to second base
- Nickens walked again to get the Eagles on base in the bottom of the fifth
- Tia Beckham then hit a double and moved pinch runner Ali Bunch to third base
- A single to second base by Grayson Buckner allowed Bunch and Beckham to score, increasing Winthrop's lead 4-1
- The Spartans added another to the board in the top of the sixth after Macy Michael doubled to lead off and scored off a single from Avery Bouquin, cutting into the Eagles' lead 4-2
- Emmy Cardenas got the save in the circle, preventing the Spartans from extending their lead by allowing only two hits in the top of the seventh and stranding two on base
- The game ended in a ground out to Cardenas by Nya South
EXTRA BASES
- Peyton Bryden extended her streak of reaching base safely to 14 straight games with a single in the first
- The victory evens the all-time series with the Spartans at 11-11
- Emmy Cardenas earned her first save of the season in the circle
- Lonna Addison earned her 13th win in the circle, one shy of her career-best for a single season

Winthrop is off until Wednesday, Apr. 8 when it hosts Wofford College at 6 p.m. in a non-conference midweek matchup.
