ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball squad fell behind 6-0 in the first inning and could not recover in a 15-5 loss to Charleston on Tuesday evening at Founders Field, snapping a six-game winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Charleston tagged Evan Vandenbosch for six runs in the first as Alex LaCoste delivered an RBI single, a wild pitch scored another, Ethan Plyler added an RBI single and Will Tippett cleared the bases with a two-run double
- Mason Tompkins entered in relief and held things together through the third before LaCoste homered in the fifth to make it 7-0
- Winthrop got on the board in the third as Grossington singled, Cox walked and Wouters singled home Grossington before Benhardt added an RBI single to cut it to 6-2
- Charleston tacked on a run in the sixth on a Jacob Amman RBI single
- The Cougars blew it open with six in the seventh, highlighted by LaCoste's second homer of the night, a two-run shot, and a two-run homer from Plyler off Casey Culbreth
- Wouters cut into the deficit with a two-run homer in the seventh and Gage Handzel drove in a run with an RBI groundout to make it 13-5, but Charleston added two more late for the final margin
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Vandenbosch took the loss, allowing six runs on four hits and three walks in just 0.1 innings
- Tompkins steadied the staff with 3.2 innings of one-run relief
- LaCoste was the story for Charleston, going 5-for-6 with two homers and four RBI
- Wouters provided three of Winthrop's five RBI, including a solo blast in the seventh
- Winthrop's six-game winning streak was snapped as it falls to 21-8 on the year
