Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. -- The Winthrop University lacrosse team dropped a 10-7 decision at Longwood on Saturday at EBJ Field, still looking for their first win in Big South Conference play. 
FIRST QUARTER 
  • Madison Rogers gave Longwood the early lead at 10:15 off a Sarah Forman assist to make it 1-0 
  • Tori Iannotti answered with a man-up free-position goal at 6:46 to level the game at 1-1 
  • The Lancers scored twice in 29 seconds on goals from Kendra DeFilippo and Rogers to go ahead 3-1 
  • Emily Hollinger and Ava-Claire Collins scored back-to-back to close the quarter tied 3-3 

SECOND QUARTER 
  • Longwood reclaimed the lead immediately on a Jordan Fitzgerald free-position goal to go ahead 4-3 
  • Kaitlyn Manderano tied the game 4-4 at 13:13 off an Iris Leavitt assist 
  • Both offenses traded turnovers over the final 13 minutes with neither team scoring 
  • The score sat at four as the game went into the half

THIRD QUARTER 
  • Leavitt converted a free-position shot at 13:24 to put Winthrop ahead 5-4 
  • Longwood answered with three straight goals from Alexandra Hirst, Mikaela Cook and Ava Bower to take a 7-5 lead 
  • Winthrop turned the ball over nine times in the quarter, repeatedly stopping its own momentum 

FOURTH QUARTER 
  • Katie Seiler pulled Winthrop within one at 12:55 off an Iannotti assist to make it 7-6 
  • Longwood responded with three straight to push the lead to 10-6 
  • Hollinger scored with 36 seconds left to make it 10-7 but the Eagles could not complete the comeback 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Winthrop committed 28 turnovers compared to 23 for Longwood, fueling the Lancers' third-quarter surge 
  • Iannotti led the Eagles with a goal and two assists 
  • Hollinger finished with two goals, including the final score in the closing seconds 
  • Longwood's Rogers led all scorers with three goals, Forman added three assists 
  • Lindsay made 10 saves on 20 Longwood shots on goal 
  • Pierpont led Winthrop with five draw controls and three ground balls
