ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team controlled the game from the start, scoring in five of eight innings and holding Davidson to one run in an 11-1 victory Tuesday evening at Founders Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Benhardt walked and stole second in the second before scoring on a Hernandez RBI groundout for a 1-0 lead
- Crowley and Natividad were hit by consecutive pitches in the third before Skowronski singled home Crowley and Benhardt drew a bases-loaded RBI walk to make it 3-0
- Winthrop blew it open with six in the fifth as Natividad and Skowronski singled to start the inning and Benhardt ripped a two-run single to left center
- A wild pitch scored Benhardt, a Davidson error allowed another run and Grossington capped the frame with a two-out, two-run single to push it to 9-0
- Gage Handzel drew an RBI walk and Hernandez scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to push it to 11-0
- Davidson avoided the shutout in the eighth on a Cooper Collins sacrifice fly for the final margin
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Evan Vandenbosch earned the win with four scoreless innings, striking out six on 85 pitches
- Mason Tompkins added four innings of one-run ball, extending his scoreless streak to 16 innings before Davidson broke through in the eighth
- Ray McNaught closed it out with a perfect ninth, striking out the side
- Benhardt reached base three of four times and drove in three, continuing to be one of the most consistent bats in the lineup
- Davidson committed three errors and used eight pitchers in the loss
