Peyton Bryden was named the Big South Conference Player of the Week while teammate
Rebecca Amos was tabbed the Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Bryden batted .500 in four games last week and played a key role in helping the Eagles earn a series sweep of Gardner-Webb. Bryden was 7-for-14 while scoring twice and driving in six runs. She extended her hitting streak to four games while pushing her streak of reaching base safely to nine. Started the week 1-for-4 vs. Coastal with an RBI. Opened the series with Gardner-Webb going 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI. She hit a two-run double in the bottom of the second as part of a six-run inning to lead 6-0. In the sixth inning she provided insurance with an RBI single for a 7-3 lead. Played a key role in sweeping the doubleheader to secure a series win in the second game. In the 3rd inning, she tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single. In the bottom of the 6th in a 3-3 game, Bryden had an RBI single to left for a 4-3 lead as the Eagles scored three more runs for a 7-3 lead as Bryden scored to lead 5-3. In game three she doubled to left to push Amos to third who scored on the next batter for a 1-0 lead. She had a busy week at third, finishing with four putouts and 10 assists (1.000 fielding percentage).
Amos had the fourth best batting average on the team in average this past week (.357). After going 0-for-4 vs. Coastal Carolina where the teams combined for four hits in eight innings, she bounced right back to help the Eagles earn series sweep of Gardner-Webb. Opened the series 2-for-3 with a run and RBI in a 7-3 win. Singled to lead off the bottom of the first. Had an RBI single in the second inning for a 2-0 lead (6 run inning). In the 2nd game of the series, she hit a leadoff triple and scored on the next batter to cut the Gardner-Webb lead to 2-1. In the final game she was 2-for-3 with a run. She led off the first with a walk and then eventually scored on a sac fly for a 1-0 lead in a game the Eagles won 3-2. Amos now has 13 multi-hit games on the year, which leads the team.
This is the first time earning the weekly honor for Bryden and the second time for Amos. This now makes five total weekly honors on the season for Winthrop.
