Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop fell 2-1 in eight innings to Coastal Carolina, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference midweek action.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Coastal Carolina threatened a couple of times in the early innings but the Eagles were able to work out of it
- Eagles first threat to score came in the bottom of the sixth as Mili Watts reached on an error to lead off
- Watts moved to second on a wild pitch and then to third on a ground out but was left stranded
- The Chanticleers took the lead in the top of the eighth as their only hit of the game came off the bat of Hannah Bendle for a two-run home run to right center
- Grayson Buckner led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to left center and moved to third on a ground out by Watts
- Amos grounded out to short before Peyton Bryden singled on a line shot to third base to score Buckner
- Nickens took the count full with two outs and fouled two off before grounding out to short to end the game
EXTRA BASES
- Bryden extended her streak of reaching base safely to six games while Nickens has now reached in four straight
- Four of the last five meetings between Winthrop and Coastal have been decided by two or fewer runs
- Two of the last three meetings have gone to extra innings
ON DECK
Winthrop remains at home as it welcomes Gardner-Webb to Terry Field for a three-game Big South Conference series Mar. 20-21. The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 20 at 2 p.m. The series concludes on Saturday, Mar. 21 with a single-game at 2 p.m.
