Clinton, S.C. – Winthrop fell 5-3 at Presbyterian College Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Big South Conference opening series.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles grabbed the lead first as Annelisa Winebarger led off the top of the second smashing a home run to left
- PC took the lead in the bottom of the second as Ava Coggins doubled with one out and then Molly Mattas walked
- Gracie DeCuir hit a flare to right field that dropped in to load the bases and Cierra Grice pulled a ball down the left field line that was just fair as Coggins and Mattas scored
- Blue Hose struck again in the third as Blair Darby doubled with one out and with two outs Mattas hit a home run down the left field line for a 4-1 lead
- Eagles dug into the lead in the top of the fourth as Winebarger went yard for the second time as she connected on a shot to right field to trail 4-2
- In the top of the sixth, Peyton Bryden drew a leadoff walk followed by a single to left by Darrah Nickens to put tying run on the bases
- Winebarger came in and nearly hit her third home run of the day as she sent one to the warning track in left
- On the play Bryden tagged and moved to third while pinch-runner Ali Bunch moved to second
- The Eagles loaded the bases with one out after Sophia Lawson drew a walk
- Lonna Addison stepped up with a chance to dig into the PC lead and she popped up between the pitcher and first base
- The pitcher and first baseman collided trying to make the catch as Bryden raced home to score and Bunch and pinch-runner Brianna Riehle moved over one base two put two runners in scoring position
- PC pushed its lead back to two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Duke doubled to right center to lead off and eventually scored on a sac fly to center for a 5-3 advantage
- Eagles had a chance in the top of the seventh as Tia Beckham delivered a pinch-hit double to left center and was replaced on the bases by Emma Roberson but were unable to plate any runs
EXTRA BASES
- PC takes the series 2-1 and has now won the last three series with the Eagles in Clinton
- Winebarger finished the weekend series 6-for-8 at the plate with four runs, three home runs and five RBI
- Bryden reached base to extend her streak of reaching base safely to five
- As a team the Eagles had four home runs in three games at PC, adding to their league-leading total (28)

Winthrop steps away from league play as it will host Coastal Carolina in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, Mar. 18 in a single-game at 4 p.m.
