Clinton, S.C. – Winthrop earned a doubleheader split on the road at Presbyterian College, Friday afternoon in the Big South Conference opener for both teams.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- PC jumped on the Eagles in the bottom of the first for a 3-0 lead
- The big hit of the inning came off the bat of Audrey Burton as she hit a two-run home run to left with two outs for the three run advantage
- The Blue Hose added five runs in the second as Ava Coggins led off with a single and scored on a double to center by Gracie DeCuir and then DeCuir scored on a throwing error
- After PC loaded the bases on three consecutive walks, Blair Darby hit a line shot off the glove of Peyton Bryden as she tried to react quickly with her glove as the ball went into foul territory allowing two runs to score
- Eagles got some back in the third with two outs
- Roberson stole second to get into scoring position and then Rebecca Amos singled to center to plate Roberson for the Eagles first run
- Bryden followed with a single to center, moving Amos to second followed by a double off the base of the centerfield wall by Darrah Nickens to scored both runners and trail 8-3
- After the Blue Hose pushed their lead to 10-5 in the third, the Eagles tried to dig into the PC lead in the fourth as Annelisa Winebarger led off with a single
- Sophia Lawson followed with a double to right center to put runners at second and third
- Amos singled to center to plate Winebarger and then two runs scored on a fly ball to center that looked to be caught by a PC outfielder but the players collided and the ball fell to the ground as the Eagles trailed 10-5
- PC plated three in the bottom of the sixth to end the game as it loaded the bases and pinch-hitter Baxleigh Arnette had a two-run single and then a sac fly to right by Logan Grice scored Ava Coggins for the eight run lead
Game 2
- Winthrop struck first as Amos drew a leadoff walk and stole second
- Bryden then walked and both runners moved over a base on a ground out by Nickens
- Winebarger plated Amos with a sacrifice fly to center
- Lawson made it a 2-0 lead as she singled through the right side to score Bryden
- The Blue Hose clawed their way back to tie the game at 2-2 with a run in the first and a run in the second
- Eagles took the lead back in the top of the third as Bryden reached with one out followed by a single from Nickens
- A flare to right field by Winebarger loaded the bases
- Lawson singled to the right side to score Bryden and then on the play the first baseman dropped a throw allowing Lawson to move to second and Nickens to score
- In the Top of the fourth, the Eagles scored three more highlighted by a two-run triple to center by Amos
- In the top of the sixth the Eagle added to their lead with four runs
- It began with a leadoff home run to left field by Bryden
- After Nickens doubled off the base of the wall in left center, Winebarger stood in and laced a two-run home run down the left field line
EXTRA BASES
- In the first game of the doubleheader, PC scored its most runs in a single-game against the Eagles in the series history
- The Eagles repaid the favor in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring 12 which bests the 11 runs they scored against PC on Apr. 6, 2012
- Amos had 4 hits on the day and extended her hitting streak to four games while Roberson has now hit safely in five straight
- Emmy Cardenas tossed her third complete game of the season and earned her third win in the circle

The teams will wrap-up the series on Saturday, Mar. 14 with a single-game at 1 p.m.
