Emmy Cardenas tossed a 6-hit shutout to help Winthrop earn a 5-0 victory at Furman, Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Paladin Invitational.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Winthrop struck first by taking an early lead with a run in the first
- With two outs, Darrah Nickens and Tia Beckham drew back-to-back walks
- Grayson Buckner stepped up and singled to right to plate Nickens
- For a second straight inning, the Eagles were able to get something going with two outs
- Emma Roberson singled to centerfield and then stole second to get into scoring position
- Rebecca Amos stepped up and singled to right field to score Roberson for a 2-0 lead
- In the fifth inning, Peyton Bryden homered to left with two outs to increase the lead to 3-0
- Eagles added two more runs in the seventh for insurance as Amos and Bryden each plated a run with a single
EXTRA BASES
- Emmy Cardenas tossed a complete game shutout, the first of her collegiate career
- Bryden extended her hitting streak to five games, her second streak of five or better this season
- Beckham reached base safely for a 13th consecutive game
- Nickens has a stretch of her own going as she's now reached safely in eight straight games
ON DECK
Winthrop are off during the week and back in action Mar. 6-8 as it hosts the Winthrop Invitational. The Eagles open play at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 6 as they take on Georgia State. The Eagles will then face ETSU at 6:00 p.m.
