Greenville, S.C. – Winthrop softball split the second day of the Paladin Invitational as it began with an 8-7 walk-off loss to Seton Hall before winning 10-7 against George Mason Saturday evening at Pepsi Stadium.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Seton Hall
- Winthrop stranded a pair of runners in the top of the first after a double to left center by Darrah Nickens and a single from Tia Beckham through the left side
- Two Seton Hall players reached on fielder's choice in the bottom of the first, then a double from Sophia Demarco to right center plated Christina Ginex
- A triple from Beckham in the top of the third put the Eagles on the board with a run from Mili Watts
- Three singles, a walk, and a stolen base brought Seton Hall's lead up 3-1 in the bottom of the third
- Seton Hall increased its lead to 6-1 with three runs in the fourth with an RBI single from Benitez and a fielding error that led to the second run of the season
- The Eagles had a dominant top of the fifth inning
- Bryden doubled to left center, followed by a single from Nickens, allowed Bryden to score
- Grayson Buckner doubled to left center and advanced third on the throw, plating Nickens
- Carli Pearson's second single of the day allowed Buckner to score, bringing the score within two runs
- Annelisa Winebarger hit a three-run homer to center field, bringing in Tabitha Perry and Pearson, giving the Eagles a 7-6 lead
- Seton Hall earned the win 8-7 after a walk-off double from Andrea Perez
vs. George Mason
- Winthrop had a strong start in the top of the first, with RBI doubles from Nickens and a double from Beckham
- George Mason's Logan Pickford homered off the first pitch thrown by Ali Bunch, which ignited a three-run first by the Patriots
- A double by Maddie Lemasters then plated Tess Harris, followed by a single to bring home Lemasters, with George Mason taking the lead 3-2 at the end of the first
- Rebecca Amos led off the top of the second with her second single of the game, then stole second base
- Bryden then singled to left field, advancing to second on the throw, plating Amos and Perry, with the Eagles taking the lead
- Another double from Nickens scored Bryden, followed by another double from Beckham to plate Nickens to take the lead 6-3
- Lonna Addison returned to the circle to replace Ali Bunch at the bottom of the second
- A set of doubles by George Mason cut into Winthrop's lead by two going into the third inning
- Addison struck out a batter and left two runners on base to prevent George Mason from scoring further in the bottom of the second
- A throwing error by Jessica Chan allowed Grayson Buckner to reach and score both Beckham, who walked, and Nickens, who hit a single in the top of the fourth
- Another home run by Pickford and double by Lemasters to right field made it a one-run game going into the fifth
- Carli Pearson singled to right field to start off the fifth inning
- A groundout by Tabitha Perry and a single from Amos put Pearson in scoring range, making it a 9-7 game
- Beckham hit her second home run of the tournament in the top of the sixth, bringing the lead 10-7
- Addison struck out four more batters in the sixth and seventh innings, keeping the George Mason offense in check to help secure the win, 10-7

- Tabitha Perry got her first hit of the season against Seton Hall
- Darrah Nickens increased her streak of reaching base to seven games
- Nickens and Beckham tied for a team-high five hits on the day as they both had three extra base hits
- Beckham increased her streak of reaching base to twelve games
- Beckham has hit a home run in five of her last seven games
- After one RBI in the first six games, Beckham has 21 RBI in her last 10 games
- Lonna Addison had seven strikeouts, her second-best this season (10 vs. Kent State)

Winthrop will wrap-up play at the Paladin Invitational on Sunday, Mar. 1 when it faces the host Furman at noon.
