Brayden Gilley and
Harrison Wilson combined to hold Maine to four runs as the Winthrop University baseball team extended its winning streak to five games with a 7-4 victory Friday afternoon at Founders Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams traded zeroes through two innings before Winthrop broke through with a five-run third
- Gabe Natividad doubled down the left field line with two outs and Skowronski followed with an RBI double to shallow right to make it 1-0
- Alan Benhardt walked and Cade Norton singled home Skowronski to push it to 2-0 before Hernandez launched a three-run homer to deep right field to blow the game open at 5-0
- Gilley cruised through the first five innings, retiring the side in order in the second and third while allowing just two hits and a walk through five scoreless frames
- Maine rallied in the sixth with four consecutive extra-base hits, as Juju Stevens doubled, Albert De La Rosa ripped an RBI double, Hunter St. Denis lined an RBI double and Troy Carpenter crushed a two-run homer to deep left to cut it to 5-4
- Walker Brodt entered in relief and ended the threat by striking out the final batter of the inning
- Grossington answered immediately in the bottom of the sixth, drilling a solo home run to left field off Maine starter Gianni Gambardella to restore the two-run lead at 6-4
- Hernandez added an RBI double to right center in the seventh to push the lead to 7-4
- Wilson was dominant out of the bullpen, striking out the side in the seventh and retiring all nine batters he faced over three hitless innings to lock down his second save of the season
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gilley earned his third win despite the rough sixth, finishing with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings on just 68 pitches
- Wilson was dominant in relief, throwing three perfect innings with three strikeouts on 27 pitches to slam the door
- Hernandez continued his hot start, going 3-for-4 with a homer and a double to account for more than half of Winthrop's runs
- Grossington's solo shot was the immediate answer to Maine's four-run rally, giving the Eagles a cushion they would not relinquish
- Winthrop has now won five straight
- This marks the first time this season the Eagles went a full nine innings without getting hit by a pitch
