ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Winthrop University baseball team picked up its fourth win in as many days, taking down Marshall, 11-7, on Monday afternoon inside Founders Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marshall struck first in the opening frame as Evan Bottone singled and advanced to third on two wild pitches before scoring on a Jackson Halter fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead
- The Thundering Herd blew the game open in the third when Bottone tripled down the right field line, Halter singled him home and Ethan Murdoch crushed a three-run homer to deep left to make it 5-0
- Winthrop answered in the bottom of the third as Natividad was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Norton RBI single to cut it to 5-1
- The Eagles erupted for five in the fifth to take the lead — Natividad and Skowronski reached via HBP and walk before Benhardt singled to load the bases with nobody out
- Norton delivered an RBI single to left and Hernandez followed with another run-scoring single to center before a Handzel HBP, Crowley RBI single and Cox RBI groundout capped the rally to put Winthrop ahead 6-5
- Walker Brodt kept Marshall off the board with two scoreless innings of relief in the fourth and fifth
- Marshall tied it in the sixth when Bottone drove in Murdoch with an RBI single off Colby McNeely to knot the game at 6-6
- The Thundering Herd retook the lead in the eighth when Onate walked, moved up on a sacrifice bunt and a balk, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-6
- Trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth, Norton and Hernandez were hit by consecutive pitches to put two on before Crowley was also plunked to load the bases with two outs
- Pinch-hitter Grant McGuire reached on a Marshall fielding error to score the tying run, and Cox drew an RBI walk to put Winthrop ahead 8-7
- Natividad then ripped a bases-clearing double to left field to blow the game open at 11-7
- Garrett Byrd slammed the door in the ninth, striking out two and stranding two runners to seal the comeback
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Byrd earned his first win of the season with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, striking out two
- Natividad's bases-clearing double in the eighth provided the insurance, driving in three to turn a one-run lead into a four-run cushion
- Norton reached base in all five plate appearances, going 3-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch and a stolen base
- Winthrop was hit by a pitch six more times in the win, continuing a season-long trend that has seen the Eagles plunked at a prolific rate through eight games
- The Eagles have won four straight games in four days after starting the season 2-2
