Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop softball captured its fourth straight win as it defeated Mount St. Mary's 10-2 in five innings in the final game of the Coach Cooke Memorial, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- The Mount took advantage of two fielding errors in the first, including the first run that crossed the plate
- The Mount eventually loaded the bases and Emma Tawney drew a walk to plate Kelsie Bandelow for a 2-0 lead
- Eagles responded in the bottom half of the first by tying the game
- Rebecca Amos drew a leadoff walk and then Peyton Bryden homered to left center to tie the game at 2-2
- In the bottom of the second, Tabitha Perry and Leaha Rushing drew back-to-back walks to start
- After they were sacrificed to second and third by Emma Roberson, Amos singled to short and after the ball got away from the shortstop Perry raced home for a 3-2 lead
- Two batters later Darrah Nickens singled to center, scoring Rushing from second
- Tia Beckham stepped in and hammered a home run to center field, a three-run blast for a 7-2 lead
- Winthrop added another run in the fourth as Carli Pearson doubled to left with one out and then scored on a single to left center by Perry
- The Eagles ended the game in five innings as Amos led off the bottom of the inning with a double to left center as she hustled around first to stretch the hit into two bases
- Bryden followed with a single up the middle to put runners at the corners
- Nickens hit a soft single to left center to score Amos and then two batters later Buckner singled through the hole at short to plate Bryden from third for a 10-2 lead a fourth win in the row
EXTRA BASES
- Emmy Cardenas tossed a complete game to earn her first win in the circle this season as she allowed two unearned runs on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts
- The Eagles have now won a season-high four straight games
- Beckham had three RBI in the game, her third game of the last four with three or more RBI as she finished the weekend with 11 total RBI in four games
- Beckham extended her hitting streak to six straight games and has now reach safely in seven straight
- Pearson extended her hitting streak to five games and Bryden has now reached safely in six straight
- Eagles have scored 10 or more runs in back-to-back games for the first time since Februaryof 2020 when they scored 11 vs. N.C. A&T and then 17 against Delaware State
- In four games of the Coach Cooke Memorial, the Eagles had eight home runs
ON DECK
Winthrop remains at home as it will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. when it takes on #13/22 South Carolina on Terry Field.
