ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Luke Earnhardt struck out eight over five shutout innings and Winthrop pounded out 10 hits in a 13-3 victory in game one, but Georgetown left-hander Spencer Seid held the Eagles hitless through five frames as the Hoyas earned a split with an 8-3 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Founders Field, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Winthrop wasted no time getting on the board in the first as Natividad led off with a single to right center and advanced to second on a groundout by Hernandez before Josh Skowronski worked a full-count walk to put two on
- Skowronski and Natividad executed a double steal to put runners at second and third, and Natividad scored on a wild pitch to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead before Norton added a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 2-0
- Natividad delivered again in the second, lining an RBI single to center field with two outs to plate Crowley from second base and extend the Winthrop advantage to 3-0
- Georgetown answered in the third when Connor Peek reached on a fielder's choice and Larkins singled to shallow left to put two on with one out before a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position
- Travis Ilitch reached on an error by center fielder Ethan Wilson that allowed both Peek and Larkins to score and cut the deficit to 3-2, but Earnhardt struck out Sheffield to strand Ilitch and escape further damage
- The Eagles put the game away with a five-run fourth inning, loading the bases after Natividad singled, Skowronski walked and Norton was hit by a pitch off Georgetown reliever Andrew Jergins
- Benhardt delivered the big blow with a two-run single to center field that also saw him advance to second on a throwing error by center fielder Jackson Thomas, and Wilson followed with an RBI infield single to third base to push the lead to 8-2
- Crowley capped the frame with a two-run single to center field to plate Benhardt and McGuire and blow the game open at 9-2
- Winthrop added another in the fifth when Hernandez was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on a throwing error by Jergins on a pickoff attempt and scored on a Norton fielder's choice to make it 10-2
- Earnhardt cruised through his final two innings on the mound, setting the Hoyas down in order in the fourth and striking out two more in the fifth to finish with eight punchouts on 90 pitches
- Dylan Hansen and Mason Tompkins combined to hold Georgetown scoreless in the sixth and into the seventh before the Hoyas scratched across a run in the seventh when AJ Solomon doubled down the right field line, Peek walked and Larkins delivered an RBI single to right field to make it 10-3
- Tompkins entered and struck out Braxton Templin to strand two runners and end the threat
- The Eagles answered with a three-run seventh highlighted by Hernandez's two-run double to right center that scored Grossington and Natividad, and Hernandez later stole home on a double steal with Norton to push the lead to 13-3
- Raymond McNaught and Carson Everrette finished the game out of the bullpen, combining for 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, with Everrette striking out pinch hitter Jordan Kahn looking to start the ninth before getting Pozzi caught stealing and Rybinski to ground out to seal the win
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Earnhardt earned the win with five dominant innings, allowing five hits and two runs, both unearned, while striking out eight and walking just one on 90 pitches in his 2026 debut
- Natividad set the table all afternoon out of the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base to lead the Eagles offensively
- Norton reached base in all five plate appearances and added two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored despite being hit by a pitch three times
- Winthrop was hit by a pitch eight times for the second consecutive game, with game one seeing nine HBPs, as Norton (3), McGuire (2), Skowronski (1), Hernandez (1) and Natividad (1) all being plunked as Georgetown pitchers combined for eight hit batters and four walks
- Georgetown starter Trajan Lee took the loss after allowing six earned runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout in 3.2 innings, and the Hoyas used four pitchers in the defeat

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgetown jumped on Winthrop starter Randy Guzman in the opening frame as Connor Peek drew a one-out walk and stole second base before Dylan Larkins singled to second base to put runners at the corners
- A wild pitch allowed Peek to score and moved Larkins into scoring position, and Sheffield followed with an RBI single to center field to give the Hoyas a 2-0 lead before the Eagles came to bat
- Winthrop threatened in the bottom of the first when Jaylen Hernandez was hit by a pitch and stole second base and Grant McGuire walked to put two on with two outs, but Seid got Alan Benhardt to ground out to end the inning
- Peek struck again in the third, doubling down the left field line and advancing to third on a balk before Sheffield delivered another RBI single to shortstop to push the Georgetown lead to 3-0
- The Hoyas added to their advantage in the fourth when Travis Ilitch and Brett Blair strung together back-to-back singles off Guzman to chase the Winthrop starter after 3.1 innings
- Walker Brodt entered in relief and walked AJ Solomon to load the bases before Peek lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 4-0
- Seid, meanwhile, was dominant on the mound for Georgetown, retiring 15 of the first 18 Winthrop batters he faced while allowing only three baserunners via walks and hit batters through five hitless innings
- The Eagles finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Griffin O'Connor as Benhardt was hit by a pitch and Wilson crushed a two-run home run to deep left field to cut the deficit to 4-2
- Grossington followed with a double to left center and advanced to third on a fly ball by pinch hitter Cade Norton before Colin Crowley delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to right center to pull Winthrop within one at 4-3
- Georgetown reliever Ethan Rucker entered and hit Gabe Natividad with a pitch to put two on, but Hernandez grounded out to shortstop to strand the tying and go-ahead runs
- Winthrop's bullpen held the Hoyas scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings as Ben Rehkow and Shane Keup combined for 1.2 innings of hitless relief
- Georgetown broke the game open in the eighth against Colby McNeely as Blair singled to right center and Solomon walked before Peek lined an RBI single to left center to make it 5-3
- Larkins reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base to set the table for Sheffield, who ripped a two-run single to right center to extend the lead to 7-3 and put the game out of reach
- Connor Price capped the scoring in the ninth with a solo home run to deep left field off freshman Garrett Byrd to make it 8-3
- Luke Jackman closed it out for the Hoyas with two scoreless innings, striking out two and walking one to seal Georgetown's first win of the season

- Seid earned the win with five hitless innings, walking three and striking out six while scattering three hit batters on 86 pitches in a masterful start for the Hoyas
- Sheffield paced the Georgetown offense going 3-for-4 with a team-high four RBI, two stolen bases and a walk, recording an RBI hit in three separate innings
- Guzman took the loss after allowing seven hits and three earned runs in 3.1 innings, striking out six but surrendering two wild pitches and a balk that contributed to Georgetown's early scoring
- Wilson's two-run homer in the sixth was the lone extra-base hit for the Eagles, who managed just three hits on the night after collecting 10 in game one
- Winthrop was hit by a pitch five more times in game two, giving the Eagles 22 hit batters across the first three games of the season as Hernandez (2), Benhardt (2) and Natividad (1) were all plunked
- The Eagles used six pitchers in the loss, with Brodt (1.2 IP), Rehkow (1.0 IP) and Keup (0.2 IP) combining for 3.1 scoreless innings of relief
