Rock Hill, S.C. – Logan Duncomb scored a game-high 26 points to help lead Winthrop to its eighth straight win as it defeated UNC Asheville 84-71, Saturday afternoon inside the Winthrop Coliseum.

FIRST HALF
- It was a good start for the Eagles as Kody Clouet buried a left wing three on the first possession
- On the other end Isaiah Wilson poked the ball away for a steal as the Eagles turned the turnover into a Kareem Rozier lead for an early 6-0 lead
- It was a four point game with 17:04 left when the Eagles pushed it to seven as Logan Duncomb working hard on the offensive glass led to three free throws for an 11-4 advantage
- At the midway point of the half it remained a tight game as a drive and score at the rim by Wilson put the Eagles up 20-16 with 9:43 left in the half
- It was a two point lead for Winthrop when Kody Clouet's steal led to a foul the put Rozier at the line for a one-and-one with 7:19 on the clock
- Rozier made both free throws and then two possession later drilled a left wing three to lead 25-20
- The lead increased to seven at 27-20 as Josh Meo was fouled drive to the rim and made both free throws
- Asheville came back to tie the game at 29-29 after Kameron Taylor dropped in a left wing three
- Eagles answered with a corner three from Pharrell Boyogueno to regain the lead with 4:05 left in the half
- Following a score at the rim by Toyaz Solomon to cut the Eagles lead to 37-33 with 1:31 on the clock, the Eagles finished with back-to-back three from Clouet and Rozier to lead 43-33 at the half
SECOND HALF
- Winthrop opened the second half with a defensive stop and then out of an inbounds play, Rozier knocked down a corner three for a 46-33 lead
- The Bulldogs responded with a 9-0 run that began with a Taylor three, to cut the Winthrop lead down to 46-42 with 15:48 on the clock
- Seifeldin Hendawy ended the right as he knocked down three from the right wing
- Leading 51-48 with 13:03 remaining after a Justin Wright jumper, the Eagles scored six straight at the foul line as Logan Duncomb hit all six attempts
- Duncomb hit two more with 9:45 to play to give the Eagles a 58-50 advantage
- Eagles pushed the lead back to double-digits at the 8:36 mark as Hendawy dropped in another three from the wing to lead 65-55
- Wright went 1-of-2 at the foul line to cut it back to a single-digit game, but five straight points by Duncomb that included a three-point play pushed the Eagles to a 70-56 lead with 6:40 to play
- Asheville was as close as 10 points with 4:37 left, but Clouet buried a three and the Eagles cruised the rest of the way
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Winthrop finished the game shooting 45 percent while Asheville was 43 percent from the floor
- Eagles scored 26 points behind the arc, finishing 13-for-31 while Asheville finished 5-of-20
- Logan Duncomb finished the game 18-of-19 at the free throw line while the Eagles were 25-for-28
- The Bulldogs were 20-of-24 at the line as Taylor led the way at 10-for-10
- The battle on the boards favored the Eagles 35-27, finishing with 11 offensive boards that led to 12 points
- Kareem Rozier and Kody Clouet were a combined 9-for-17 from three
- Eagles began the game 4-for-14 from the floor, but finished the final 31 minutes 19-for-37 (51%)
NOTABLES
- Logan Duncomb tied the program's single-game record for made free throws with 18 and was one shy of tying the single-game record for free throw attempts with 19
- Duncomb ties Mark Hailey and James Shuler with 18 made free throws
- The winning streak is extended to eight games overall and it was also the eighth straight win at home
- The 13 threes in the game is the 15th game on the season with 10 or more, the third most by an Eagle team in a single-season
- Winthrop finished the month of January 8-0, becoming only the second team in program history to go undefeated in the month (Other is the 2006-07 team that was 9-0 in January)
- Eagles have now won 16 of their last 18 regular season league games
- Winthrop improved to 8-1 in conference play for the first time since 2016-17 and just the fourth time ever
