Clinton, S.C. – Behind a career-high 38 points and 15 rebounds from
Logan Duncomb, the Eagles earned a 7
th straight victory, 82-72 on the road at Presbyterian College Saturday afternoon.
WINTHROP (15-8, 7-1 Big South)

FIRST HALF
- Eagles scored on their opening possession as Isaiah Wilson got the ball into the post to Logan Duncomb who turned and dropped in a short hook shot
- Kareem Rozier put the Eagles in front 5-2 at the 18:04 mark, but the Blue Hose responded with four straight points to take their first lead of the game
- The game was tied 9-9 when Seifeldin Hendawy drove to the rim and as his shot off the glass bounced out, Duncomb elevated to slam home the miss with 13:29 to play
- After forcing a turnover on the next possession the Eagles took advantage as Duncomb scored again for a four-point lead
- Eagles used a 7-0 run to build a 22-13 advantage with 6:45 left in the half
- Five of the points came at the free throw line and capped off by a bucket at the rim by Tommy Kamarad
- A three from Josh Pickett cut the Winthrop lead down to five with 6:08 left
- Winthrop responded with another 7-0 run as it pushed the lead to double-digits at 29-17 on a Pharrell Boygueno triple from the top at the 3:01 mark
- Hendawy put the Eagles up 10 with 29 seconds left in the half, but a tip-in by Jonah Pierce as time expired cut the lead to eight at the break, 36-28
SECOND HALF
- Eagles opened the half with the ball and scored as Wilson found Duncomb cutting down the lane and he dropped a short jumper
- Wilson followed his own miss and tipped it in at the 18:46 mark to lead 40-28
- Eagles hit a scoring drought leading 42-30 as Khalon Hudson drilled a three to begin a 7-0 run to trim the Winthrop lead to five at the 16:19 mark
- Hendawy put an end to the run as he scored at the rim to lead 44-37
- Winthrop led by eight points again as Duncomb went 1-of-2 at the line with 13:43 to play
- Over the next minute and a half PC drew two fouls on three-point attempts and made all six attempts to cut the Winthrop lead to four
- Eagles went back to Duncomb as he scored again in the paint to lead 51-45
- Rozier converted two free throws with just under 12 minutes remaining to lead by six, but five straight points by the Blue Hose highlighted by a three-point play from Triston Wilson cut the lead to one at 53-52 at the 11:30 mark
- PC made it a two point game with 6:35 to play when Wilson knocked down an elbow jumper
- Duncomb dropped in a short jumper in the paint to lead by four and then after rebounding a PC miss he pushed the ball ahead to Rozier as he canned a right wing three to lead 69-62
- It was a one possession lead for the Eagles with 3:32 left when Hendawy made two free throws to push it to 72-68
- Following two free throws from Piercer to cut the Winthrop lead to 72-70, the Eagles went back to Duncomb in the post and he scored off a Kamarad dish with 3:08 remaining
- With 2:10 left in the game, Rozier looked like he had a clean steal in the backcourt but was whistled for a foul as Carl Parrish made two free throws to make it a one possession game at 75-72
- Winthrop regained a two possession advantage as Duncomb took a pass from Rozier going down the right side of the lane and he scored off glass
- Following a defensive stop, Rozier was fouled and went 1-of-2 at the line to lead 78-72 with 1:26 to play
- PC had the ball down six with 41 seconds left after a missed free throw and Parrish tried to drive the right side of the lane but Duncomb blocked the shot and snagged the rebound
- Duncomb gave the ball to Rozier who took a dribble and then launched a pass down court to Kamarad who finished with a dunk to all but seal the victory
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Both teams finished the game shooting 41 percent from the field
- Winthrop finished the game 5-of-1 behind the arc while PC was just 4-of-19
- Eagles only committed season-low five turnovers in the game while forcing 14 from the Blue Hose
- The rebounding margin was even at the half, but the Eagles finished with a 39-35 advantage, including 15-9 on the offensive glass that led to 16 second chance points
- Winthrop also had the edge in the paint, 40-30
- There were 60 free throw attempts in the contest as Winthrop was 25-of-35 and PC finished 22-for-25 PC was 18-of-19 in the second half alone)
- Duncomb scored 29 of his 38 points in the second half as he led three Eagles in double-figures
NOTABLES
- This was Duncomb's second 30-point game and ninth game with 20 or more this season
- The 29 second half points from Duncomb were the most by an Eagle since Feb. 8, 2023 when Sin'Cere McMahon had 28 at UNC Asheville)
- It was also Duncomb's 7th double-double of the season
- This was the first 38 point game by an Eagle since Nov. 21, 2016 when Keon Johnson came off the bench for 38 in an overtime win at Illinois
- It is the first 38 point game in regulation since Jimmy Gavin did so on Nov. 27, 2015 at North Carolina State
- With the win, Mark Prosser earns his 50th Big South regular season victory
- Winthrop has now won seven straight games, the longest streak since winning 10 straight in 2021-22
- The Eagles handed the Blue Hose just their second loss at home all season as it was the Eagles 8th straight win at the Templeton Center
UP NEXT
Winthrop has its first in league play this season so there will be no midweek contest and instead the Eagles will be back in action at home on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. against UNC Asheville.
