Clouet's Late Three Lifts Eagles To Sixth Straight Win

Eagles Overcome Double-Digit Deficit In 2nd Half

Rock Hill, S.C. – Kody Clouet's three-pointer with two seconds remaining in the game completed a double-digit comeback victory as Winthrop survived Radford for 76-75 win, Wednesday evening in Big South Conference men's basketball action.

FIRST HALF
  • Eagles opened the scoring as Isaiah Wilson found Kareem Rozier on the right wing and he swished a three for the early lead
  • Radford answered with back-to-back buckets for its first lead as Lukas Walls and Del Jones each scored off the drive
  • Eagles regained the lead after two free throws from Tommy Kamarad only to have Radford back in front on the next possession as Jones converted two free throws
  • Radford pushed its lead to three on three difference occasions until a straight away three from Pharrell Boyogueno tied the game at 12-12 with 12:54 to go in the half
  • Highlanders responded with back-to-back threes for a six point advantage with 11:42 on the clock
  • Winthrop responded with five straight points, with the first coming out a media timeout as Josh Meo found Kody Clouet for a corner three and then Meo scored off glass on a drive down the right side of the lane
  • Clouet connected on a three on 3-of-4 possessions as the third one put the Eagles in front 23-21 with 9:35 left
  • With 5:04 remaining in the half the Highlanders built a 29-25 lead after a stepback three from Brennan Rigsby
  • The Eagles fought their way back into the lead as Kamarad scored on a drive followed by a turnaround jumper just inside the free throw line from Rozier and a corner three from Meo to lead 32-30 with 2:39 on the clock
  • Highlanders scored the final three points of the half to lead 33-32 at the break

SECOND HALF
  • The second half started with Kamarad going 1-for-2 at the line to tie the game at 33-33
  • Rozier dropped in a three on back-to-back possessions to give the Eagles a 39-36 lead at the 17:52 mark
  • A three-point play from Logan Duncomb gave Winthrop a four-point lead with 17:12 left
  • Radford answered with four straight points as Jones drove the right side of the lane and scored off glass followed by a score on the drive by Frederik Erichsen to tie it at 42-42 at the 16:36 mark
  • After a short jumper from Ed Nnamoko had the Eagles in front 47-46 with 14:16 left, the Highlanders made an 11-0 run over the next four and a half minutes to lead 57-47 with under 12 to play
  • Duncomb brought the run to an end as he maneuvered inside and scored off the glass to trail 57-49 with 10:24 to play
  • Duncomb scored on back-to-back possessions as the Eagles beat the pressure as Wilson passed to Duncomb headed toward the bucket and he finished at the rim to make it a two possession game and forcing a timeout by Radford
  • With 7:49 remaining, Clouet dribbled his way into the paint, spun and dropped in a turnaround jumper for an And 1
  • Clouet converted the free throw to cut the Radford lead to 61-56
  • Rozier drained a catch and shoot three with 7:08 to play to cut the deficit to four points
  • Rozier came through again, this time Wilson found him on the right wing as he dropped in a three to make it a one point Radford lead at 67-66
  • After forcing a turnover with 4:04 to play, the Eagles again kept the ball moving and Wilson made the extra pass as Rozier drained a corner three in front of the Eagle bench to regain the lead at 69-67 with 3:40 remaining
  • It was a tie game when Kamarad received the ball in the post and muscled his way to a layup to take the lead with 1:02 left
  • Jones answered for Radford as he knifed through the defense down the middle of the lane for an And 1 and converted the free throw for a 74-73 lead with 51.7 remaining
  • With 35.6 seconds left Duncomb went to the line with a chance to tie or take the lead and both attempts rattled in and out
  • Eagles chose to foul down one and a separation of about 4-5 seconds between the clock and shot clock
  • Tyson Brown went to the line, made the first but missed the second as the Eagles pushed the ball across halfcourt quickly to call timeout with 15.7 remaining
  • The Eagles moved the ball around and Wilson eventually got it into the hands of Clouet on the left wing as he faked and side stepped the defender before splashing home the game-winning three with two seconds to play

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Eagles finished the game shooting 47 percent from the floor after shooting 58 percent in the second half
  • Radford shot 61 percent in the second half and finished at 53 percent for the game
  • The final three of the game gave Winthrop 12 as they were 46 percent behind the arc while Radford finished 9-for-22
  • Highlanders won the battle on the glass 31-28 while the Eagles forced 19 turnovers that led to 21 points compared to nine off 12 turnovers for Radford
  • Rozier finished with a team-high 20 points as he knocked down five of his six three in the second half alone

NOTABLES
  • The win pushes the Eagles winning streak to six in a row and the home winning streak to seven straight
  • Winthrop is now 14-2 in the last 16 regular season league games
  • The 12 threes were the 14th game the Eagles have hit 10 or more this season, now tied for the third most in a single-season
  • Eagles are now 6-0 in 2026 and have six wins in the month of January for the first time since the 2021-22 season
