Asheville, N.C. – Winthrop pushed its win streak to five games as it held on for a 69-67 road win at UNC Asheville, Saturday afternoon.

FIRST HALF
- Eagles were on the board first as Isaiah got into the paint and drew a shooting foul as he converted both free throws
- Kareem Rozier knocked down right wing three for a 5-2 lead before Kameron Taylor scored on back-to-back possession to give Asheville a 6-5 lead
- Logan Duncomb put the Eagles back in front at the 15:24 mark as he made two free throws
- Duncomb stole the ball and went the distance as he was fouled and made both free throws for an 11-7 advantage
- Following a pull-up jumper from Justin Wright, the Eagles responded on the ensuing possession as Tommy Kamarad found Kody Clouet in the corner for three and a 14-9 lead with 12:34 left in the half
- Eagles led 18-14 at the midway point of the half after Julian Clarke hit a left wing three for the Bulldogs
- Seifeldin Hendawy made two free throws with 4:51 left in the half to give the Eagles an eight-point lead (27-19)
- It was a four point lead for the Eagles with 2:48 left in the half as the Eagles reeled off five straight points including a Duncomb short jumper with 47 seconds left
- Eagles took a 33-25 lead into halftime despite shooting 30 percent from the floor
SECOND HALF
- Asheville opened the scoring in the second half as Taylor finished at the rim in transition
- Toyaz Solomon made two free throws to trim the Eagles lead to four at the 18:27 mark
- Rozier pushed the ball in transition after a Duncomb rebound to put the push the lead to 35-29
- The teams traded three-point baskets on five consecutive possessions as Clouet banged knocked down both for the Eagles, Solomon two for the Bulldogs and Taylor for Asheville as well
- The second Solomon three made it a one possession game with 16:18 remaining
- Following the Solomon three, the Eagles went on a 9-0 run to build a 50-38 lead with 13:40 to play
- Clouet scored five points during the run including his third three of the half
- Josh Meo dropped in his second three of the game as Isaiah Wilson found him in corner for a 53-42 lead with 10:33 remaining
- The lead was nine with 4:44 to go after two free throws from Duncomb
- It was a four-point game with 3:37 left as Asheville chipped away at the Winthrop lead
- Eagles were scoreless for nearly two minutes when Duncomb made two free throws at the 2:52 mark to push the lead to 67-61
- The lead was down to four with 2:10 left as Duncomb scored on the ensuring possession and then Clouet drew a charge with 1:29 to play
- A layup by Wright with 37.5 seconds to play cut the Winthrop lead to 69-67
- Asheville boarded a missed three from Meo with eight seconds left and pushed the ball up the floor with Wright and as he neared the three-point line Rozier knocked the ball away and fell on it to run out the clock for the win
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Both teams got after it defensively as Winthrop held the Bulldogs to 36 percent shooting and finished the game shooting 35 percent
- Eagles finished 9-for-26 behind the arc while holding the Bulldogs to 5-for-25 from three
- Eagles won the battled on the boards with a 42-38 edge
- There were a total 50 fouls whistled in the game as the Eagles finished 24-for-30 from the foul line and Asheville was 18-of-25
- Winthrop matched its season-high with 15 turnovers as Asheville outscored the Eagles 13-6 in points off turnovers
- Clouet led the Eagles with 21 points as he connected on five threes while Duncomb worked his way to 17 points as he was 11-for-14 at the free throw line
NOTABLES
- Eagles are riding a season-best five-game winning streak
- This was the first win in Kimmel Arena since 2022
- Eagles held Asheville to just 25 first half points, the third straight game holding their opponent under 30 in the first half
- Clouet hit the 20-point mark for the third time this season and is in double-figures the last four games
- Winthrop has now won 13 of its last 15 regular season league contests and five of the last six on the road
