Game Recap
- Catamounts opened the scoring in the 25th minute as Sofia Goclowski's corner to the back post was headed home by Ava Robitaille
- The Eagles looked to equalize before the half and nearly did in the 42nd minute off a corner kick
- The corner was sent near the back post and deflected off a crowd of players in front of Elle Brewer who then ripped a low shot on frame that was cleared off the line by a Catamount defender
- Western Carolina grabbed a two goal lead in the 61st minute as Milla Syska sent a long back that was chased down by Isabella DeMarco with the Eagle defense giving chase
- As the through ball bounced toward the 18, Mia Vrataric tried to beat DeMarco to the ball but DeMarco got there first and on her first touch placed a shot over the head of Vrataric and into the net
- In the 80th minute Ally Bender tried to steer a header on frame off corner but missed wide of the left post
Notables
- Western Carolina attempted to test the Winthrop goalkeepers with a 28-5 advantage in total shots and 10-1 in shots on goal
- Vrataric finished with five saves while Sofia Iori had three saves
- Catamounts had seven corners while the Eagles finished with four
- The Eagles unbeaten streak comes to an end at four games
Looking Ahead
Winthrop hit the road for the third time this season when it heads to Macon, Ga. on Thursday, Sept. 11 to take on Mercer at 5 p.m.
