N. Charleston, S.C. – Winthrop women's soccer dropped a hard fought Big South Conference match on the road Wednesday afternoon, falling 1-0 to Charleston Southern.

Game Recap
- Charleston Southern had a chance early as Sedona Dancu fired a shot on frame that was saved by Sofia Iori
- Nearly two minutes later the Eagles generated a chance but Amalie Steen's shot was off target to the left
- In the 13th minute Monssi Avila-Gutierrez placed a shot into the lower right corner but Avery Mason made the save
- A little under four minutes later Avila-Gutierrez hit the frame again with a shot by Mason made the save
- Cordelia McIntosh tried to beat Mason to the lower left corner with a shot in the 25th minute but Mason was there for the save
- Buccaneers tried to find the lead before the half as Elina Kunik fired a shot on frame to the upper left portion of the goal that was saved by Iori
- Game was scoreless at the half, but the Eagles looked to quickly change that 41 seconds into the second half but Mia Silber's shot missed to the left
- Iori made another save in the 49th minute off a shot from Jenea Knight to keep the game scoreless
- In the 54th minute the Bucs earned a corner that Carson Wells got on the other end of but she was denied by Iori
- On the ensuing corner the Bucs had another good chance as Sedona Dancu's shot to the lower left was saved by Iori for another corner
- This time the Bucs were able to capitalize as Knight scored on a shot to the lower right corner for the lead
- In the 77th minute Avila-Gutierrez's shot to the lower left corner was saved by Mason
- Delaney Pearson's shot in the 80th minute was on frame, but right at Mason for another save
- Winthrop pressed until the very end, earning a corner with 30 seconds remaining but were unable to find an equalizer

- Winthrop had an 11-9 advantage in total shots while the Bucs had an 8-5 edge in shots on goal
- Bucs earned five corners while the Eagles had two
- Iori played the entire 90 minutes in goal and finished with a career-high seven saves while her counterpart Mason finished with five
Looking Ahead
Eagles are off this coming weekend and will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 1 as they head to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m.
