Game Recap
  • Wofford struck first as Nathan Simes chipped a through ball past the Winthrop defense and Kalle Rahbeck finished with a shot into the lower left corner
  • Eagles nearly drew level in the 44th minute as a service into the box found the foot of Jayco Castro and his shot first time pinged off the left post and right into the arms of goalkeeper Pepe Hinterschuster
  • Moments before that Pierson Kliebert was on the end of a cross from Castro in front of goal but his shot was off the mark high and left of the frame
  • A few minutes before Wofford got on the board, the Eagles had a good scoring opportunity
  • Eagles played a quick few passes with Bernardo Pacheco receiving one in spaced headed toward goal as he ripped a shot from outside the box that was low by right at Hinterschuster
  • Winthrop was able to generate some offensive opportunities in the second half with perhaps the best one coming in the 67th minute
  • A cross into the box found its way off a clearance to the top of the 18 where Ryan Armijo collected it and fired a shot that was blocked
  • The deflection came wide as Dragen Vrataric ran on, took a touch and fired a low shot toward the right corner that was just saved by the outstretched arm of Hinterschuster
  • Eagles earned a free kick just on the edge of the box in the 80th minute
  • Diomario Adamson took the free kick and tried to curl a shot around the wall but it caught the shoulder of a defender and just went wide to give the Eagles a corner
