Game Recap
- Jayco Castro tried to test Georgia State keeper in the 9th minute with a shot from just outside the edge of the box but the shot was directly at Loan Marin for the save
- Eagles had a good scoring opportunity in the 41st minute as Jayco Castro chased down a pass into the box and fired a shot at an angle toward the bottom right corner but Loan Marin was there for the save as he tipped it wide for a corner
- In the 39th minute the Panthers had a good scoring chance as Gustavo Marques got on the end of a through ball into the box and from Jack Kilstrom's left fired a shot on frame that was turned away by Kilstrom for a corner
- Eagles pressed until the end and a service by Haruto Horii in front of goal in the winding seconds found the head of Caleb Swenson but was unable to get a header past Marin who made the save as the clock expired
- Winthrop struck first as it drew a foul about 20-22 yards out from goal
- Haruto Horii curled a shot around the wall into the lower left corner for the goal and the lead in the 51st minute
- The Panthers drew level a short time after in the 55th minute as Pavel Romero-Garmendia's longball was collected by Braiden St. Hall as he dribbled to his right in the box and fired a shot into the lower right corner
- Both teams tried to create chances over the next 15-18 minutes but were unable until the 73rd minute when Georgia State grabbed the lead
- Samir-Mohamed St. Djeha collected a loose ball on the outside, dribbled toward the middle of the field and fired a shot from around 25 yards out into the lower left corner to lead 2-1
- Panthers added an insurance goal as the Eagles were pressing to find the tying goal
- Panthers had a man advantage and after a cross was defended well off a good tackle from Dragen Vrataric the ball deflected straight to Matt St. Taylor who placed a shot from about eight yards out into the left corner
- Following the goal the Eagles had a chance as Jayco Castro fired a shot from the edge of the box to the left corner that was tipped wide by Loan on a diving save
Notables
- Georgia State finished with a 20-11 advantage in shots, 9-7 in shots goal
- Jack Kilstrom finished with six saves for the Eagles while Loan also had six
Next Game
Winthrop's three-game homestand has come to an end as it will hit the road for the first time this season as it travels to Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, Sept. 5 to take on Queens at 7 p.m.
