Hodgson Tabbed as Institutional Nominee for Big South Woman of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Winthrop Lacrosse goalkeeper Maddy Hodgson has been named as the Winthrop nominee for the Big South Woman of the Year award, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Nominees for the annual honor are submitted by the league's member institutions, and a Selection Committee of Conference Administrators will determine the Big South Woman of the Year, who will advance as the Conference's official nominee for the national NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Hodgson, a native of Lebanon, Ohio, recently graduated from Winthrop with a degree in Sport Management and a minor in Spanish. She recently was recognized by the IWLCA as an honor roll student. She was heavily involved in initiatives on campus and locally, including being the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Winthrop. Hodgson was a leader for Winthrop's Baptist Collegiate Ministry and a main figurehead for Winthrop's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) branch. Hodgson was in the Honors College and a Park Baptist church attendee. Along with all those organizations that Hodgson is a part of, she still found time to volunteer at the Hope House, Richmond Drive Elementary and helping with crisis assistance for those in need post Hurricane Helene.

On the field, Hodgson wrapped up her colligate playing career this past season. In 2024 she was named team captain by her teammates and coaches. Hodgson totaled a career mark of 576:32 minutes spent in the crease, turning away 66 shots. She had a career-high total of 40 saves in 2023, playing 373:01 minutes in net for the Eagles.
