Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop Athletic Director Chuck Rey announced the hiring of Hannah Potter as head women's lacrosse coach, Monday afternoon. Potter served as interim head coach of the Eagle program during the 2025 season.
Potter becomes the 4
th head coach in program history. This past season as the interim head coach, Potter led the team to a 4-4 finish in the Big South, the most league wins since 2019.
"We are excited to officially elevate Hannah Potter as the next head women's lacrosse coach," stated Rey. "Her impactful leadership this past season resulted in the program's best record since pre-COVID, alongside continued academic excellence and positive team growth. Her dedication and vision for the program have already made a significant difference, and we anticipate continued success under her guidance."

Potter's joined the Winthrop program in August of 2022 as she was named assistant coach. She primarily worked with the Eagles' defense, draw takers, and goalies as an assistant. In her two seasons as an assistant coach the Eagles saw defensive improvement, statistically increasing the caused turnovers per game and decreasing the goals against per game. In her second season as the draw team coordinator, Potter oversaw a 5
th place finish in the Big South after a previously ranking 8
th the season prior. This was highlighted by having an increase in draw controls per game by 1.86 while having two players finish in the top ten in conference the past two seasons, both earning all-conference honorable mention recognition (Molly Dankowski and
Madison Mayer).
The 2025 team Improved in nearly every statistical category from the previous season: Goals +61, assists +20, points +83, shots +183, ground balls +68, caused turnovers +65, decreased fouls -62, draw controls +65, average goals per game +2.48, and clearing percentage from .778 to .850 (+.072). The Eagles set single-season program records in man up goals (27), draw controls per game (16), and single game man up goals (8). The Eagles also rank among the NCAA D1 Top 50 for draw control percentage (36th), draw controls per game (16th), shots per game (48th), shots on goal per game (45th), free positions goals per game (38th), free position percentage (33rd), and points per game (50th).
