Eagles Down High Point Friday Night To Even Series

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop hung on to even the series with High Point at home Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Johnson's two-out homer to right field put the Panthers up 1-0 in the first inning
  • In the next inning High Point put runners on second and third but a fly out ended the threat
  • Simpson's homer to center field with one out made the score 2-0 in favor of the visitors in the third
  • Winthrop nearly got on the board in their half of the frame, but a strikeout concluded the stanza
  • Eagles got their first run of the evening on Skowronski's RBI single to left field with one out
  • But the Panthers took it back to a two-run edge on Simpson's RBI double to left field with two outs in the top of the fifth
  • Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth and capitalized on the opportunity as Kropf cleared the bases with a double and put the home team in the lead for the first time
  • Winthrop kept it going, proceeding to load the bases again three plays later, this time with two outs and the Eagles went on to score six more runs to take a 10-3 lead
  • Eagles also loaded the bases twice more after loading the bases the second time in the inning
  • Winthrop ultimately scored nine runs in the fifth inning
  • Hillier led off the top of the sixth with a solo shot to right field to cut the deficit to six and then four plays later Echazarreta's RBI groundout drove in Ruiz and made it 10-5 Winthrop
  • Three more runs for tacked on for the Eagles in the next stanza to up it to eight
  • Chronis's RBI double down the left field line with no one out was the highlight of the inning
  • The Panthers got a run back on an RBI single by Hillier to center field with two outs in the top of the seventh
  • In the eighth High Point continued to battle back, trimming it to five at 13-8 on RBI singles by Simpson and Melton, both with two outs and then loading the bases after Melton's single
  • After loading the bases, Simpson came in to score on a wild pitch but fortunately the Eagles induced a groundout to prevent the Panthers from inching any closer
  • Winthrop loaded the bases one more time with one out in their half of the eighth and Gabe Natividad's fielder's choice got in E. Wilson and Chazz Grossington came in to score from second on an error, making the score 15-9 Eagles
  • High Point loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and was able to get a run in via a walk. a hit by pitch and a wild pitch, cutting it to three
  • With the bases still loaded with one out following a hit by pitch, Hall induced a strikeout and a strikeout to end the game
