Eagles Beat High Point On Senior Night To End Regular-Season; Post 12-Run Fifth

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop ended the regular-season in grand style by defeating High Point on Senior Night, 15-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Eagles struck first to start the day in the first on Kropf's RBI single to left field with no one out
  • The Panthers had guys on second and third, but a fly out ended the top of the second for the visitors
  • High Point loaded the bases in the next stanza but a double play snuffed out the rally
  • Winthrop did the same with two outs in their half of the third and extended the score to 2-0 as Benhardt was hit by a pitch, walking in Natividad
  • The Panthers loaded the bases with no one out in the fifth and scored five runs to take their first lead of the game
  • But the Eagles responded in a huge way in their half of the fifth, scoring 12 unanswered runs to go up by nine, 14-5
  • Natividad hit a homer to left field to lead off the sixth
  • The game ended in the seventh via the 10-run rule

Winthrop will compete in the Big South Tournament next week at Truist Point in High Point, N.C. The 2025 Big South Conference Baseball Championship will again be hosted at the High Point Rockers' home ballpark of Truist Point in High Point, N.C. The double-elimination tournament is scheduled for May 21-24, and will feature the top six teams in the final standings.  The winner of the tournament will receive the Big South Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. The Eagles will play on Wednesday, May 21 against an opponent and a time TBD.
