Columbia, S.C. – Winthrop fell late in the re-match at South Carolina Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Skowronski led off the top of the second with a homer to left center field to put the Eagles on the board first, 1-0
• E. Wilson doubled the Eagle lead in the fifth with a leadoff solo blast of his own to left center field
• Winthrop nearly made it a 4-0 edge with runners on second and third but a strikeout ended the inning
• At the end of the fifth, Eagle starting pitcher Brayden Gilley had given up just one hit and one walk in just 16 batters faced up to that point in the contest
• Leading off to start the sixth, Skowronski drilled his second homer of the night, this time to right field, and making it 3-0 in favor of Winthrop
• South Carolina got on the board on Scobey's leadoff homer to left field in their half of the sixth
• Winthrop got two clutch runs in the seventh with two outs on Koby Kropf's RBI single and Skowronski's RBI double, extending the lead to 5-1 for the visitors from Rock Hill
• But the Gamecocks scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to win the game
