Spartanburg, S.C. – Winthrop split a doubleheader at USC Upstate taking the first game 4-3 before falling 5-0 in the nightcap, Saturday afternoon at Cyrill Stadium.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1 (Won 4-3)
- Eagles grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning
- Emma Jackson led off the game drawing a walk and then stole second
- Megan Powell followed with a walk and two batters later Katie Beck walked to load he bases
- Peyton Bryden drew a walk on a full count to plate Jackson for the lead
- Eagles were unable to add anymore runs as Madelyn Miller grounded to short as the throw came home for a force out at the plate and Tabitha Perry fouled out to end the threat
- Spartans tied the game in the bottom of the first with an RBI double by Denver Lauer
- In the bottom of the second an RBI double by Georgia Preddy put the Spartans in front 2-1
- Eagles regained the lead in the top of the third inning as Peyton Bryden hit a two-run home run to left center for a 3-2 lead
- Spartans tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Sophia Kardatzke
- Eagles went back on top in the top of the fourth as Grayson Buckner doubled with one out
- Buckner moved to third on a ground out and then came home as Powell delivered a single to left for a 4-3 advantage
- Upstate had a good chance to tie or retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as it loaded the bases with one out
- Megan Powell came in to pitch and recorded a foul out and a ground out to end the threat
- Powell then tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to secure the win
Game 2 (Lost 5-0)
- Spartans took the lead in the bottom of the first as Kardatzke and Carson Shaw provided RBI singles
- In the second inning the Spartans made it 3-0 after an RBI single by Lauer
- An RBI double by O. Hall in the bottom of the third put the Spartans up 4-0
- Tia Beckham was hit by a pitch with one out in the fourth and Katie Beck followed with a single up the middle
- Both runners moved over on a wild pitch but the Eagles were unable to take advantage
- T. Thomas led off with a double and eventually came around to score on a ground out in the fourth to lead 5-0
- Perry led off the fifth with a single and moved to second after Buckner's single with one out but they were both stranded
EXTRA BASES
- Beckham's hit streak came to an end, but she extended her streak of reaching base to nine straight
- With her RBI in the first game, Powell reached 30 on the year and now leads the team
ON DECK
Winthrop remains on the road for a fifth straight game as it heads to Clemson, S.C. on Wednesday, Apr. 9 to takae on Clemson at 6 p.m.
