HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the next stanza, two more runs were added to Winthrop's total
  • Hernandez's RBI groundout drove in Crowley and on the next play Chazz Grossington scored on a balk
  • Winthrop loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but couldn't add on to their lead
  • In the first six innings, Sarna faced 18 batters and retired 16 of them, with nine of them being strikeouts
  • Longwood ended the shutout bid on Newman's two-run homer to left field with two outs
  • With the Eagles now ahead by five at 7-2 entering the top of the eighth, Winthrop responded in a big way, scoring three more runs
  • Alan Benhardt's RBI double down the right field line scored Natividad and made it a six-run game
  • On the next play Chronis's two-run RBI single made it an eight-run game
