HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Eagles bolted to an immediate 3-0 lead in the top of the first as Chronis's RBI double to center field with one out cleared the bases
  • The score was extended to 4-0 in the next inning up for Winthrop on Hernandez's RBI double down the left field line with two outs
  • Longwood got on the board in the bottom of the third on Webb's RBI double to right field, scoring Urbaniak and cutting the margin to 4-1
  • But in the top of the fourth, Chronis again hit a bases clearing RBI double, this time with two outs and down the left field line, scoring three runs on the play
  • The next two batters, Skowronski and E. Wilson, then hit RBI singles and made the score 9-1
  • The Lancers cut the deficit to seven in the bottom of the fourth on Tufts's RBI groundout and in the next inning Carter's two-run RBI double to left field with two outs made it a five-run game
  • But a sac fly by Chronis to right field, a Skowronski solo bomb and an error by the Lancers upped the lead to 12-4 in the sixth
  • Longwood continued to fight back, making it a four-run game in the seventh on Webb's two-run homer down the left field line, Carter's RBI triple to left center field and Stevenson's RBI double to left center field
  • Eagles put a runner on third in the top of the eighth, but a groundout ended the threat
  • The Lancers sliced the lead to 12-10 in the bottom of the frame on Newman's RBI triple down the left field line and Webb's RBI single up the middle
  • Both plays occurred with one out
  • An eight-run ninth in the top of the ninth for Winthrop sealed the deal and the series
  • Part of the offensive outburst was Chronis hitting a two-run homer to left center field with one out to make the score 15-10
  • The homer was significant as it was Chronis's 9th and final RBI of the game
  • This tied a school record for most RBI's by an Eagle in a single game (Jeff Cisar also had nine RBI's vs. Hawaii-Hilo on Mar. 4, 1996
