Rock Hill, S.C. – The Big South Conference announced its annual men's golf award winners on Thursday as the Eagles garnered five honors including Newcomer of the Year
Jeff Nelson.
Nelson earned the Newcomer of the Year honors and named to First Team All-Conference as he led the team in scoring average (72.19), which was third-best in the Big South. Nelson's season was highlighted by captured medalist honors at the Dorado Beach Collegiate. He also had three Top 10 finishes and finished in the Top 15 six times.
In the Dorado Beach Collegiate, Nelson posted a 7-under 65 in the opening round which was one shot off tying the program record for low round. On the year he finished with 14 rounds of par or better.
Ashton Eubanks was named Honorable Mention All-Conference. This year he enjoyed two Top 10 finishes that include tying for medalist honors at the Carolina Cup. At the Frip Island Invitational he posted his collegiate 54-hole low with a 213 as he finished T7. Eubanks finished second on the team in stroke average at 73.79 and had 11 rounds or par or better.
Dallas Johnson was named to the All-Freshman Team has he finished third on the team in stroke average this season at 74.06 in six total events. At the Big South Conference Championship he led the Eagles with a T9 finish as he was 1-under for the championship (212). His collegiate-low of 2-under (214) at the Dorado Beach Collegiate gave him a T20 finish. In that event he posted a collegiate-low round of 5-under.
Logan Lutz was named to the Big South All-Academic Team. Lutz is majoring in sport management and has been a member of the dean's list. The 2023-24 Big South All-Freshman Team selection had a collegiate-best scoring average of 74.25, fourth best on the team. Lutz had a season-best T5 finish at the Peoples Golf Championship in which he posted a first round 64 (-7), one shot of tying the program record for low round. In the event he posted a collegiate 54-hole low of 208 (-5). Lutz also had a T8 finish at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
