Eagles Claim Series With Gardner-Webb Behind Two Grand Slams, Strong Pitching

Rock Hill, S.C. – Two grand slams and an Owen Sarna pitching gem highlighted Winthrop's dominant shutout of Gardner-Webb at home Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alan Benhardt's two-run RBI single to left field with one out put the Eagles on top in the first
  • Natividad's RBI single to center field with two outs extended the lead to 3-0 in the next frame
  • Then in the bottom of the third Winthrop put up a five-spot, highlighted by E. Wilson's grand slam to left field with one out
  • In the bottom of the fifth, E. Wilson came in to score on a wild pitch with one out, making the score 9-0 Eagles
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Kropf drilled Winthrop's second grand slam of the game as part of a six-run seventh for the Eagles
