Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop swept the regular-season series from Gardner-Webb at home Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Eagles scored the first four runs in the bottom of the second, all on four consecutive plays and with two out
• Three of the runs were RBI singles
• Gardner-Webb put runners on second and third in both the top of the third but a strikeout ended the threat
• The Runnin' Bulldogs got on the board in the next inning on Macias's leadoff homer to left field
• Two innings later the visitors cut it to two on Thomas's RBI double down the left field line with two outs
• But in the Eagle half of the sixth Winthrop took it back up to a four-run margin on E. Wilson's RBI single with no one out and Grossington's sac fly to center field
• Kropf made it 7-2 Eagles in the bottom of the seventh on a homer to left field with one out
• Gardner-Webb cut it to two in the top of the eighth on Francis's sac fly to right field and Ilgenfritz's two-run shot to left field
• The tying run came to the plate for the visitors in the top of the ninth but a flyout ended the game
