HOW IT HAPPENED

• Alan Benhardt advanced two bases to get to third on a failed pickoff attempt by Upstate with two outs in the top of the first but a flyout ended the inning on the next play
• In the next inning, Liam McCallum grounded out but got Ethan Wilson home to put the Eagles on top first
• Waters homered down the left field line to tie the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second and then went deep again with two outs in the bottom of the fourth to left field to put the Spartans up 4-1
• USC Upstate scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to seven and then put up a nine-spot in the sixth to go up 17-1
• The game ended in the seventh
