Spartanburg, S.C. – Winthrop fell in the second game of the three-game series at USC Upstate Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Eagles put runners on second and third to start the day, but a strikeout ended the top of the first
• Upstate loaded the bases in their half of the first as the first three batters were walked and proceeded to get the first five runs across (three of them with no one out) on Sweeney being hit by a pitch, Campbell's two-run RBI single through the right side, Lucas's groundout and Waters's RBI single up the middle
• The Spartans made it 8-0 at the end of third on Zenor's sac fly to center field and two runs coming in to score on an error by the Eagles with two outs
• Lucas's double down the right field line scored Campbell with one out and extended their lead to 9-0 in the fourth
• In the next inning Sheahan's two-run homer to left field, Campbell's RBI single up the middle, and Waters's sac fly to center field made the score 13-0
• All the scoring plays for USC Upstate occurred with one out
• In the top of the sixth, Chancellor Jennings's sac fly to right field brought in Chazz Grossington and ended the shutout bid
• In the next frame, Liam McCallum doubled down the left field line, scoring Colin Crowley and making it an 11-run game
• But in the bottom of the seventh Waters's two-run RBI double to left center field made it 15-2
• Winthrop wrapped up the scoring in the top of the eighth as Chet Bowling advanced to second via an error by the Spartans with one out but allowed two runs to score on the play
