Beckham Delivers 3-Run Walk-off Home Run In Win Over Catamounts

Rock Hill, S.C. – Tia Beckham led Winthrop to a 4-2 win over Western Carolina with a three-run walk-off home run, Sunday afternoon at Terry Field

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning, but were unable to take advantage for an early lead
  • Catamounts struck in the fourth inning as Maya McPherson delivered a loop single to left field, scoring Lily Bell from second
  • Then Rylee Butler scored on a fielder's choice, beating the throw home
  • The offenses were quiet over the next few innings until the bottom of the seventh
  • Emma Roberson reached on an error to lead things off and moved to third on single to center by Emma Jackson
  • Megan Powell put the Eagle on the board with a sacrifice fly on a deep fly ball to right that was caught by the outfielder near the top of the wall
  • Two batters later Katie Beck drew a walk and Tia Beckham stepped in to deliver a walk-off three-run shot to center for the win
EXTRA BASES
  • Powell now has six RBI in her last five games and also earned her 7th win in the circle this season
  • Powell allowed one earned run on three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts
  • Beck has scored in three straight games now and has six runs, nine RBI in the last five games
  • Beckham's home run ties her with Beck for the team lead with six and she has five RBI in the last three games
ON DECK
Winthrop won't have a midweek contest and will be back in action next weekend as it opens up Big South Conference play Mar. 15-16 at home against Longwood. The series starts on Saturday, Mar. 15 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and the series wraps-up on Sunday, Mar. 16 with a single game at 1 p.m..
