HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Winthrop struck quickly to start the day, going up 2-0 on Alan Benhardt's RBI single and Josh Skowronski's RBI groundout in the first
  • Eagles made it a three-run game in the next inning on Natividad's single
  • But on the play, he was able to get to second aided by a Cornell error that also allowed Chet Bowling to score from second
  • The Big Red nearly got on the board in the top of the third, getting a guy on third but Gilley induced a strikeout to end the threat
  • Winthrop doubled the score in their half of the frame on RBI doubles by E. Wilson and Colin Crowley and an RBI groundout by Bowling
  • Cornell scored in the top of the fifth on Carlson's sac fly to center field but Winthrop got a run back in the bottom of the inning when E. Wilson came in to score on a wild pitch with one out
  • The Big Red was then stopped in the sixth, this time with the bases loaded, as Eagle relief pitcher Nick Veslelinovic retired the next batter up to end the inning
  • The visitors from upstate New York cut the margin to 7-2 on Jensen's RBI single to right field with two outs, scoring Quintan on the play
  • A two-run shot by Davis to right field in the eighth inning made it a three-run game
  • But Winthrop put the Big Red away for good with three runs, thanks to another error by the visitors that scored two runs and Natividad's RBI triple to right center field, both with no one out
