Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop softball suffered losses of 10-8 to Queens and 12-0 to Boston on day two of the Winthrop Eagle Classic, on Saturday.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Queens
- Royals pushed four across in the top of the first as Taylor Jones provided a three-run home run and Lindsey DeRoeck had an RBI double
- Eagles responded in the bottom half of the first as Emma Jackson led off with a single to left and moved to second after Megan Powell was hit by a pitch
- Two batter later Katie Beck doubled to left center to plate Jackson and put runners at second and third
- Tia Beckham made it 4-2 as she grounded out to second allowing Powell to score from third
- Grayson Buckner followed with a single to right to score Beck and pull the Eagles within a run
- Eagles took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the second as Powell delivered a three-run home run to left center
- Queens tied the game in at 6-6 in the fourth inning as it started the inning with back-to-back home runs from Alexi Markle and Brooke Piper
- A two out triple by Doroeck to right center in the top of the sixth put Queens in front 9-6 as it cleared the bases
- Trailing 10-6 in the bottom of the seventh the Eagles didn't go quietly as Beck drove home a run on a ground out and then Beckham provided an RBI single but were unable to inch any closer
vs. Boston
- Terriers grabbed an early lead as Brooke Deppiesse homered to left for a 1-0 lead in the first
- Kylie Doherty hit a two-run homer in the second inning for a 3-0 advantage
- Boston opened up the game in the seventh inning, pushing seven runs across
- The game went to the bottom of the seventh as the Eagles looked to break up the no-hit bid by Kasey Richard
- And the Eagles did just that as Powell led off the inning with a single up the middle on a full count
- Two batters later the Eagles also spoiled the shutout as Beck stepped up and hit a two-run home run to left
EXTRA BASES
- Powell extended her streak of reaching base to eight straight
ON DECK
Winthrop is back in action on Sunday, Mar. 9 at 12:30 p.m. as it will face Western Carolina in the final game of the Winthrop Eagle Classic.
