Kropf, Skowronski Each Hit Two-Run Home Runs In Loss To UAB In Greenville

Greenville, S.C. – Koby Kropf and Josh Skowronski both went deep in a 9-7 loss to UAB at Fluor Field Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Koby Kropf got the night started with a two-run bomb to right center field in the first with one out
  • Three plays later Cole Yearsley singled through the right side with two outs, driving in Alan Benhardt and extending the lead to 3-0
  • Winthrop kept their 3-0 lead intact at the end of the second when Connor Harris induced a strikeout to end the inning with runners on the corners
  • In the top of the third Yearlsey reached out a fielder's choice to bring home Jaylen Hernandez and upping the margin to four
  • UAB got on the board and cut the lead in half with RBI singles by Nick Hollifield and Tyler Waugh, both with two outs in the bottom of the stanza
  • Eagles had a shot to get a few runs back in the top of the fifth with guys on first and third with no one out but the Blazers retired the next three batters to end the threat
  • UAB scored six runs in their half of the inning to take an 8-4 lead
  • The Blazers loaded the bases with two outs in the next inning but failed to add on to their lead
  • In the top of the seventh Kropf came in to score on an error with two outs
  • Then in the next inning, Josh Skowronski went yard with one out
  • It was the second two-run home run in the contest for the Eagles and cut the lead to 8-7
  • But the Blazers wrapped up the scoring in their half of the inning with Waugh's RBI single
TEAM TIDBITS
  • Winthrop moves to 1,389-1,006-7 all-time as a program
  • This was the first of two straight contests at Fluor Field
  • This was the first time this season the Eagles have played on a neutral site
ON DECK
Winthrop plays Michigan State tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. before coming home to Founders Field to face Cornell on Sunday. The Cornell game will take place at 1:00 p.m. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+.
