Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop softball captured two wins on Tuesday as it defeated Youngstown State 8-3 and ended the day with a 6-2 win over Mount St. Mary's in non-conference action.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Youngstown St.
- Emma Jackson wasted no time getting the Eagles on the board as she led off the bottom of the first with a home right to right field
- Megan Powell followed with a single and then moved to second on a Kate Beck single
- The next batter was Tia Beckham and she ripped a shot to left for a double, scoring Beck and moved Powell to third to lead 2-0
- Grayson Buckner made it 3-0 when she hit a grounder up the middle that was knocked down by the shortstop from going into the outfield but Beck scored on the play
- Jackson made t a 4-0 lead in favor of the Eagles when she led off the second inning with a home run to center
- Youngstown State got two back in the top of the third courtesy of an RBI double from R. Campbell-Schaller and RBI single from Lydia Wilkerson
- In the bottom of the third the Eagles built a three-run lead in the bottom of the third as Beckham led off with a walk and eventually came around to score on a Mili Watts single to left center
- Penguins got one back in the top of the fourth as Taylor Truran hit a two-out solo shot to left
- In the bottom of the sixth the Eagles added some insurance run beginning with a two-run home run to right by Powell
- Later in the inning Beckham singled through the hole at short, scoring Beck from third to lead 8-3
vs. Mount St. Mary's
- Eagles pushed four runs across in the second inning to take an early lead
- Tia Beckham started it off with a leadoff home run to right center off the scoreboard
- Emmy Cardenas singled with one out, but was out at second on a force play after a grounder from Buckner
- Watts stepped in and tripled to right center to score Buckner for a 2-0 lead
- Jackson followed with a single to third to score Watts
- Two batters later Jackson scored on a double off the bat of Peyton Bryden
- Winthrop tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Buckner delivered a two-run single to center to lead 6-1
- The Mount cut into the lead in the top of the sixth as Courtney Chew was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded but Madelyn Miller retired the next batter to end the threat
EXTRA BASES
- The Eagles have now won three straight after the two wins
- Powell and Jackson extended their hitting streaks to four games
- Beck has now reached base safely in seven straight games
- In the two games combined the Eagles were 9-for-21 (.429) with runners in scoring position
- Despite the wind blowing in for most of the day, the Eagles totaled four home runs
ON DECK
Winthrop is back in action this weekend as it hosts the Winthrop Eagle Classic Mar. 7-9. Winthrop will open play on Friday at 3 p.m. against Norfolk State and then take on Western Carolina at 5:30 p.m.
