Rock Hill, S.C. – Coming off opening Big South play with a win over Radford Wednesday afternoon, Winthrop heads to High Point on Saturday, Mar. 29. The contest is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN+.
A LOOK AT HIGH POINT
- This is the 18th meeting between the two schools, with High Point leading the series, 14-3
- High Point has won the last 10 meetings in the series
- The Eagles are seeking their first ever win at High Point
- The first meeting was on Apr. 5, 2013 with the Panthers winning 21-5 in High Point on the way to winning the first five meetings
- Winthrop then won the next three meetings, with two of the wins coming in the conference tournament
- Winthrop's last win in the series was on May 7, 2016 in the Big South Tournament by a 10-7 count
- The two teams met last season on Apr. 3, 2024 in Rock Hill with the Panthers winning 20-10
- High Point went 12-6 overall record and fell in the conference title game to Mercer
- The Panthers are made up of 21 returners, 10 freshmen and six transfers
- High Point had four named to the preseason all-conference team while the coaches picked the Panthers to finish second
LAST TIME OUT
- Scarlet Cifarelli and Emily Hollinger combined for 13 goals, helping Winthrop open Big South play with a win over Radford at home Wednesday afternoon
- Six different Eagles scored
- Winthrop had 13 saves to Radford's eight
- Three Eagles had three or more groundballs, with Lindsay having five to lead the way in that area
- Mayer led Winthrop in draw controls with seven
- This was the second straight year Winthrop opened Big South play with a victory
A LOOK AT THE EAGLES
- Winthrop is coming off a 2-13 (2-6 Big South) record in 2024
- Eagles are ranked seventh in the Big South preseason poll and are in their first season under interim head coach Hannah Potter
- Potter is Winthrop's fourth head coach in program history
- Eagles welcome 12 newcomers to the squad and assistant coach Jordan Bowers
- Eagles also return 18 players, seven of whom played in all 15 contests last season
- Junior Scarlet Cifarelli is the only returnee who finished in the Top 5 in goals scored last season with 13
- She also led the Eagles in assists last season with 20 and was second on the team in points with 33 and fifth in shots on goal with 18
- Emma Calhoun, Lily Davis, Gabby Pierpont and Madison Mayer were all in the Top 5 in ground balls in 2024
- Mayer also led the team in caused turnovers with 13 and draw controls with 67, resulting in her being named Honorable Mention by the Big South Conference
- Davis and Grace Herrero were close behind in the Top 5 in draw controls with 11 and eight, respectively
- Calhoun, Tori Iannotti, Chloe Patterson and Pierpont were one of six players representing the program on the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team
- With the selection of these six, they were the first ever academic all-district selections in lacrosse for the Eagles
- Eagles are 105-113 all-time as a program
- Eagles are 53-44 all-time at home
- Eagles are 45-37 all-time in Big South play
- Winthrop is looking for their first 2-0 start in conference play since 2019
SEASON HONORS
- Christina Warren-Big South Freshman of the Week-Mar. 18
- In her first career start, Warren scored a game-high seven goals to lead Winthrop to an 18-17 comeback win over Merrimack
- She converted all four free-position attempts and added one ground ball and one caused turnover
- Warren scored twice in the first half, added another in the third quarter, and netted four in the fourth, including the game-tying goal with 58 seconds remaining to force overtime
- She scored on seven of her 10 shots, nine of which went on target

- Warren totaled 10 points on nine goals and one assist across two games for Winthrop
- She led the team with six goals and an assist at Old Dominion, including a first-quarter hat trick and two fourth-quarter goals
- On Sunday against California, she added another hat trick, scoring twice in a 26-second span in the second quarter and again late in the third to pull the Eagles within two
- She finished the week with a .529 shot percentage and recorded two draw controls

Winthrop has a bye this upcoming Wednesday but will return to action next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Eagle Field vs. Presbyterian on ESPN+. The game will be Senior Day for the Eagles.
