Scarlet Cifarelli and
Emily Hollinger combined for 13 goals, helping Winthrop open Big South play with a win over Radford at home Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first 18 minutes of the game were back-and-forth, with the score being tied at six at the 12:01 mark of the second quarter after Cifarelli's goal on the man-up
- For the rest of the half, Winthrop outscored Radford 4-2 to take a 10-8 lead at the intermission
- The Eagles also outscored the Highlanders by a slim 4-3 margin in the third quarter, with all of the goals for Winthrop being scored by either Cifarelli or Hollinger
- Winthrop led 14-11 at the end of the stanza
- After the visitors opened the fourth with a goal, Winthrop ended the day by scoring the final four goals to account for the margin of victory
