Eagles Defeat NC A&T In Midweek Matchup Tuesday Night

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop defeated NC A&T in a midweek matchup Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The visitors took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Tyler Smith's RBI double down the left field line and AJ Jones's RBI single to right field with one out two plays later
  • In the next inning, the Aggies made it a three-run lead on Nick DeCarlo's sac bunt
  • Winthrop scored six straight runs in the bottom of the frame
  • The Eagles scored on four straight RBI doubles in the inning, first Vela, Natividad, Benhardt and Hernandez
  • Vela's scored two runs on the play and all the doubles occurred with one out
  • Three plays after the fourth double, the Eagles capped off the stanza by having Hernandez come in to score on a wild pitch
  • The Eagles then doubled their lead in the third on Natividad's two-run RBI triple to right center field with one out and Benhardt's RBI single to left center field, both with one out
  • NC A&T cut the score to 9-5 in the top of the fifth on Jones's two-run RBI double to center field with two outs
  • Winthrop ended the night in the eighth inning as Hernandez stole third but then came in to score on an error by the Aggies
